General Appointments

Appointments can be made in person or by telephone. We try to see our patients within 48 hours. If you have a lot to discuss please advise the receptionist who will allow extra time for your appointment, thus avoiding delays for other patients. We ask you to let us know if you cannot keep an appointment and to inform us of any change of address or telephone number. We are able to see patients who are temporarily staying in the area should they have any urgent problems.

This practice operates personal lists and will continue to keep patients under the care of their usual GP. For continuity of care the GP’s would normally expect to see their usual patients with the following exceptions:

1. Ladies may request an appointment to see a female GP;
2. Gentlemen may request an appointment to see a male GP;
3. If your GP is on leave or sick you will be offered an appointment with another GP;
4. If you need to be seen as an emergency you will be offered an appointment with the GP on duty at the time, following triage with either a Nurse of Doctor;
5. We try very hard not to run late and keep patients waiting for appointments so if you have more than one problem to discuss with the Doctor please ask for a double appointment.

Same day appointments

We believe that it is important to be able to offer a same day appointment in instances where patients feel that their problem needs that attention that day. However, please understand that it is difficult to accommodate this demand, especially at busy times of year. Genuinely urgent appointment will always be seen the same day. Please note that routine matters will not be addressed in these appointments and that only one issue will be dealt with. If the problem is long and complicated, the doctor may well ask you to return at a later date.

In an Emergency

If you are phoning from home in an emergency you will be put through as soon as possible to a Doctor or Nurse. In many emergency instances you may well be asked to call an ambulance straight away, otherwise you may be offered an appointment straight away or a home visit if it is deemed appropriate.

Home visits

Home visits can be time consuming and our aim is to reserve this service for those who really need it. Two or three patients can be seen at the surgery in the time taken to do a house call. We appreciate your efforts in attending the surgery where possible. We are unable to offer visits for those who simply have no available transport. Transport must remain the patient's responsibility.
If you wish to request an urgent home visit, you will normally be put through to your Doctor or one of the nursing staff to discuss the situation. It may, for example, be more appropriate to arrange direct transfer to hospital rather than delaying and waiting for a GP to visit. Requests for home visits must be made before 11:00 to allow the Doctors to plan their visiting priorities.

Missed appointments

Please do try to inform the surgery if you will not be able to attend. Repeated failure to attend will initially result in a warning letter and can, if persistent, result in removal from the surgery list. Non-attended appointments could be used for other patients and only results in general delay in being able to see the Doctor or Nurse.
