GP surgeries under threat from Government

Monday 28 January 2008

You may have already become aware but the future of NHS General Practices is currently under threat from the government and a spin making the GP's and their staff appear uncaring and inflexible is being put forward. As a surgery we would like you to know that your welfare is paramount to us and we pride ourselves on the service we offer. We feel we offer a good service at this time and our recent patient survey results reflect this. There are areas that we can improve on and we will endeavour to try and work on these to further improve our services. However, in the particular area of extended hours our survey and the national survey demonstrated that the large majority of patients were satisfied with the opening hours of surgeries. In terms of out of hours in this area we work with Frimley Primary Care Services based at Frimley Park Hospital to enable access to a Local GP at any time of day when required. Come April 2008 the government are going to force onto surgeries, whether a small surgery like our own or one of the larger health centres, a new contract which Doctors nationwide are seriously concerned is going to jeopardise the services we currently offer. If you feel strongly about this and wish to support your GP Practice then please do get in touch with your local MP geraldhowarth@parliament.uk or sign up to the Downing Street petition. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Polyclinics/
