The General Practice Data for Planning and Research (GPDPR) extraction
Oakley Health Group, in common with all other GP surgeries in England, will be required to extract and upload a copy of your full (historic) GP record to NHS Digital, and daily thereafter, as part of the above mentioned project. NHS Digital becomes the data controller for all such uploaded information.
At present, we do not know when such extractions will begin.
The project has been delayed, but not concelled.
You can continue to opt-out, now, if you so wish.
NHS Digital will use the uploaded information for purposes beyond direct medical care, so-called “secondary uses”, including (but not limited to) commissioning, planning, population health management, and research.
By law, we are required to inform our patients of such processing and of their right to opt-out of this extraction, should they wish to. The opt-out is the standard one used to prohibit use of your GP records for secondary purposes, the “Type 1 opt-out”. If you have already expressed such an opt-out (e.g. you previously opted out of care.data) then it remains in force and will prohibit this extraction.
Please note that the National Data Opt Out (such as you can set via the NHS App) will not prohibit the extraction and uploading of your personal information to NHS Digital for this scheme.
If you do not want any of your information to flow to NHS Digital, for this purpose, then you need to express a Type 1 opt-out. If you opt out after uploads commence (whenever that is) then your GP record will have been extracted, and whilst no new information about you will be uploaded, the copy of your GP record, as now held by NHS Digital, may not be automatically deleted.
Opt out form:
You can email your opt-out form to us. If you prefer, you can opt-out via eConsult (as above), just mark your consultation as "Administrative" and ideally for the attention of Dr Neil Bhatia:
We have produced a simple factsheet about GPDPR, which you can download here:
OHG GPDPR Factsheet
That factsheet provides links to sources of further information.
You can opt back in to secondary uses (including GPDPR) at any time.
If you would like any further information about GPDPR, primary or secondary uses of your GP record, opting out, the NHS Databases, access to your medical record, confidentiality, or about any other aspect of NHS data sharing or your medical records, then please do contact the surgery’s Caldicott Guardian/Information Governance lead/DPO:
